SUMMARY:CCCECE Spring Professional Institute (South)
DESCRIPTION:Finding the Magic: Documenting children’s learning: Explore the power of Learning Stories as a tool for documenting children’s learning in a way that is meaningful\, do-able\, fun\, inclusive and that makes a difference. By drawing on New Zealand professional learning and research on Learning Stories over the past decade\, it will provide participants with an opportunity to understand the key features of narrative assessment in greater depth. It will include strategies for beginning a Learning Story journey and provide some challenges for those who are already engaged in this journey. Examples of Learning Stories will be used to illustrate the ideas. \nLearning Stories: An opportunity to connect\, communicate\, and contribute.  Learning Stories provide powerful pathways to engage everyone – children\, parents\, teachers\, and the wider community – providing opportunities for the community of practice to become more strongly interconnected through narrative assessment. There are both expected and unexpected outcomes when the whole community works together creating\, contributing\, communicating\, and collaborating. \nPresenters: Wendy Lee is the Director of the Educational Leadership Project (Ltd)\, a professional learning provider for the early childhood sector in New Zealand. Wendy has been involved in early childhood education (ECE) field over the last 45 years as a teacher\, tutor\, lecturer\, manager\, professional development facilitator and researcher. \nDr. Annie White is an Assistant Professor with the Early Childhood Studies program at California State University Channel Islands where she teaches early childhood courses. She has close to 20 years of work experience with Early Head Start and Head Start Program in various roles such as\, home visitor\, family advocate\, child development specialist\, infant and toddler specialist and Early Head Start Childcare Partnership manager. \nDownload the flyer
